Changing file permissions via cPanel is a common task for website administrators and hosting users who want to control access to their files and directories. Here's how you can change permissions (chmod) of a file using cPanel:

Using File Manager in cPanel:

  1. Open your web browser and access your cPanel dashboard by logging in to your cPanel.
  2. In your cPanel dashboard, search for "File Manager"  Click File Manager.

  3. There are different ways to change the Permission of a file.
    • Option 1:Click on the file you want to change permissions for to highlight it.  Then click Permissions at the top menu.

    • Option 2: Right-click on the file that you want to change, then select Change Permissions from the list of options.

Option 3: Double-click the set of numbers under the Permissions column. Make changes to the permission and hit Save.

  1. Click the checkboxes to set the correct permissions and save.
  2. Click the Change Permissions option.

Remember to exercise caution when changing permissions via cPanel, especially if you're dealing with important website files. Incorrect permissions can affect the functionality of your website or create security vulnerabilities.
